Although community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) is a relatively common infection, there are wide disparities in its management, including the class of antibiotics chosen, the duration of therapy and the role of adjunctive therapy such as corticosteroids.

  1. Diagnose CAP and prescription antibiotics and corticosteroids appropriately
  2. Monitor signs and symptoms of cardiac complications, particularly in patients with a history of ischaemic cardiac disease or the presence of cardiac risk factors
