Emergencies in General Practice

Description

Emergency presentations are a common occurrence in general practice. While many are less severe and can be managed in the general practice setting, others need urgent assessment, management and secondary care referral. The rate of referral to A&E was estimated at 2.7 per 1000 encounters, and 1 per 200 problems managed.

This series will focus on the assessment and management of patients who are experiencing life threatening emergencies including:

  • Anaphylaxis
  • Acute Asthma
  • Acute coronary syndrome & ECGs
  • Arrhythmias
  • Diabetic Emergencies
  • TIA/CVA
  • Mental health emergencies
  • Eye trauma
  • Abdominal Pain
  • Paediatrics - Bumps, Burns & Fractures
  • Sepsis
  • Envenomation & Poisoning

Course content includes a range of learning options including:

  • case based interactive

  • clinical opals
  • online community
  • predisposing and post course
  • knowledge quiz and interactive webinars inclusive of poll questions
  • and moderated chat box.

 


Details

At the end of the course, you will be able to:

  1. Integrate knowledge into practice of common emergencies that present in the general practice setting.
  2. Assess patients presenting with a range of common and serious emergency conditions.
  3. Manage patients in emergency situations, including implementing immediate therapy and arranging appropriate transfer.
  4. Appraise the capacity of the practice (staff, equipment) to manage common emergencies in general practice.
